What are the Benefits of Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation?
After a neurologic, traumatic or orthopedic event, a person may be left with various functional limitations, which may prohibit him or her from returning to their premorbid life. Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation is generally offered in a hospital setting like ours, with the primary goal of providing medical, physical and psychological intervention to help overcome these functional limitations.
Under the leadership of the Physiatrist, multidisciplinary team members comprising / consisting of nursing, physical, occupational, speech therapists and case management work together to establish individualized treatment goals for each patient and therapy is provided for at least 15 hours a week. Family input and training is an integral part of this process.
The primary benefit of such a comprehensive team approach is that the person has the opportunity and support to progress to their maximum functional independence with improved quality of life prior to returning home.
The interdisciplinary team evaluates each patient and a treatment plan is developed to meet the individual's needs. Based on the individualized treatment plan, the patient receives combined therapy equaling 3 or more hours per day.
