Myra is an Akron area nurse who was walking her dog at Sand Run Park when she had an accident. The dog went one way and she went the other, injuring her leg in the process. She spent several months working through the pain while trying to figure out what was wrong with her leg. It was finally discovered that she would need a hip replacement to repair her damaged femur.
As an experienced nurse anticipating the rehab process, Myra said “I knew that I would get the best care at Summa Rehab Hospital that is why I chose them”. It was important to Myra that her pain be managed well so that she could get the most out of her time spent in therapy. She felt that the entire team of doctors, nurses, and therapists worked together to manage her pain and help her get back to better.
Myra gives a lot of credit for her recovery to the nursing and therapy staff at Summa Rehab Hospital stating, “They treated me like a VIP, and I saw them treat everyone like VIPs through my whole stay”. Myra recalled, “The processes that therapy taught me made it much easier for me to cope with my recovery and showed me there are ways to do things that can help me have an easier time.” Myra was home in less than 10 days, and doing well using the techniques she learned at Summa Rehab Hospital.
Less than 2 months after Myra’s hip replacement, she is excited that she can wear heels again. She is just waiting for her doctor to tell her she is released so that she can go out dancing again.
