George and his daugher were training for a triathlon when he started experiencing back pain that progressively worsened. It became so severe that he went to his physician to determine the casue and discovered he had a sever spinal infection. George was admitted to Summa Health to have spinal surgery to eradicate the infection. After the surgery, George was in need of expert medical care and rehabilitation and decided on Summa Rehab Hospital.
Geoge spent six weeks at Summa Rehab Hospital, where therapists Erin and Derek worked closely with him. George says "they are both good and caring and always tried to figure out what would work best for me." With the therapists' instruction, George initially utilized the FES bike and progressed to the Lite Gait treadmill and parallel bars, which enabled him to stand for longer periods and improved his walking. George states, "all the therapists are very good" and considers therapy "just as much an art as a science."
George is having ongoing outpatient therapy and continuing to make progress. He credits the team at Summa Rehab Hospital and his optimistic, determined attitude. He is so certain that he will continue to improve and get back on his feet walking - then running, biking and swimming - that he has already signed up for the same triathlon event next September.
Summa Rehab Hospital strives to help patients like George get back to better every day!
